I Asked AI To Rebuild the Bruins

Team: 2023-24 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: May 1, 2023
Published: May 1, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
As the GM of the Boston Bruins, my primary goal is to build a competitive team that can challenge for the Stanley Cup. With the information provided, I will make the following moves:

Re-sign key players:

Patrice Bergeron (C): Re-sign for a 2-year, $4 million per year contract.
David Krejci (C): Re-sign for a 1-year, $2.5 million contract.
Trent Frederic (LW, RW): Re-sign for a 3-year, $2 million per year contract.
Jeremy Swayman (G): Re-sign for a 4-year, $4 million per year contract.
Let some UFAs walk:

Tyler Bertuzzi (LW, RW)
Nick Foligno (LW, C, RW)
Dmitry Orlov (LD)
Target free agents to sign:

Alex Killorn (RW, LW): Sign for a 3-year, $5 million per year contract. He provides scoring and experience.
Erik Gustafsson (LD): Sign for a 2-year, $3 million per year contract. He can help with puck-moving and provide depth on the blue line.
J.T. Compher (C, RW): Sign for a 3-year, $3.5 million per year contract. He adds versatility and secondary scoring.
Explore trade opportunities:

Trade for a top 4 defenseman. Potential targets include Damon Severson (RD) from the New Jersey Devils or Shayne Gostisbehere (LD/RD) from the Carolina Hurricanes.

Full Trades:
Boston Bruins trade Taylor Hall to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for:
1. Damon Severson (RD)

Boston Bruins trade Charlie Coyle to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for:

Alex Turcotte (C, 22 years old)
A 2023 3rd round draft pick
Rationale: The Kings get a versatile forward in Charlie Coyle, who can play center or wing and can contribute offensively while being responsible defensively. The Bruins receive a promising young center in Alex Turcotte, who can develop into a top-six forward with more experience. The 3rd round pick adds value to the trade for the Bruins and helps them continue to build their prospect pool.
Promote prospects:

Give more ice time to young players like Jakub Lauko (LW, RW) and Samuel Asselin (C) to develop their skills and contribute to the team's success.

By making these moves, the Bruins can maintain their core while adding depth and experience. This will help the team get back to the playoffs and have a chance at winning the Stanley Cup.

Los Angeles has 14 forwards on the roster right now under contract for 2023-2024, plus 4 RFAs (two of whom are Gabe Vilardi and Rasmus Kupari), plus prospects like Alex Turcotte and Sam Fa-gem-o who will get long and serious looks in training camp, so the Kings would have absolutely no interest in trading Turcotte for another forward. We need a #2 LhD and a starting goalie, and wouldn't be interested in a rental like Matt Grzelcyk; karma rules out Derek Forbort or Jakub Zboril.

Explain how this is logical with your team 10+ mil over the cap with only 22 players?

I actually like that LAK trade, but send a goalie instead of Coyle
