Description
From his EOY interview it seems like he wants to come back to DC, although I'm sure they're still pretty far apart on a deal. The only way I think it makes sense for the caps is if 1) he takes a little bit of a discount on either term or aav and 2) they move fehervary for a young forward

I feel like this would be perfect if Fehervary was a righty. Other possible fits I could think of are St. Louis with someone like Neighbours and LAK with Villardi

Sabres like Krebs but if they can get a D like Fehervery they might look into it.

Decent on his off side?

I think Buffalo probably doesn’t do it because he isn’t used to playing on his off side, and would be asked to do that regularly. I expect Buffalo will look to the free agent market to find the right side defender they are looking for, without giving up assets to get him.

That leads into my second thought, if he can’t play on the right side it makes no sense to do it unless they feel he can be a third pair guy which I don’t think is feasible.

In my mind it is very clear they need a second pairing right side defender. I don’t believe they are looking to get rid of Jokiharju just yet, and he may not be a second pairing defender but Lyubushkin will be gone in a year, and he certainly can play third pair. They grabbed Stillman to solidify the third pairing on the left side. It will cost more to find the ideal partner for Owen Power, but that is the primary mission of this off-season. If the Sabres do that and lock up Dahlin and Power long-term, they should absolutely be a threat to win the division.

Buffalo declines. Only way they trade Krebs would be to package him with a high end pick or something and get back something really good. Would need to be a good top 4 D

Fehervary is a good top 4 D and young -- he's only a year younger than Krebs and has proven a lot more at the NHL level. He played his off-side quite a bit this past year but mostly because of how insanely injured the caps' D was, I definitely wouldn't say it's ideal but he could do it. He also has a ton of experience playing with Carlson, and so probably would be a good stylistic match with Power. The handedness was definitely my one hesitation with the fit though
