Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 20, 2023
Published: May 4, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know Noah Cates is very good and young. I was just wondering would yall even consider this or what would be needed for it to go through? Not saying he's the main piece but Ty voit could be a very sneaky add but who knows.

Thank you for a more in depth review abt him. I really appreciate your opinion and knowing that Brods for McLeod was an overpay for the Leafs. So Nicky Rob for McLeod is more even value in your eyes if it was to every happen? Forget if yall had defensive needs etc. Just strictly 1v1?

I don’t think Robertson would be high on our list. We have a lot of wingers in the system…and a few close to NHL-ready (Holtz, Clarke, Foote, Gritsyuk). Leafs could probably get more for Nick elsewhere (We do need centers)

I follow another Leafs ACGM. His profile name is Nathaniel and he is a really insightful profile with great and in depth takes. He has been talking about a Sharangovich move to the Leafs and I think that makes a lot of sense for both teams. Sharangovich on a line with ROR (and Acciari) would be lethal because of their two way play and that he is an above averager finisher capable of 20+ goals in the 2M range. He would be in his prime and help the Leafs in their quest for the cup right now.

It’s a pretty good idea.

I like Sharangovich and wish we could teach him how to win a dang faceoff. His defense, especially with the long reach, is pronounced when playing in middle of the ice.

Lot of very clear underestimation of Noah Cates in the comments here...

I don't think Philly does that. Cates put up the single best defensive 5v5 metrics in the league this year while playing Center and still put up nearly 40 points. He's an RFA controlled middle six dream for any team in the league, even though the value is fair I don't think it's reasonable to expect any of the pieces coming back to be as good as Cates likely will be in his career.

McLeod is a role player, but a pretty solid one. Wouldn’t be as easy to replace him as many think. But if Graves and Severson both leave, we will need to add a dman.

I mean maybe, but outside of Gudas and a couple others there are very few players I'd rather have than Nemec or Walsh in that spot.

Think a lot of people are undervaluing Cates in this thread. He is legitimately one of the best defensive centers in the NHL at age 24. Bringing up his points means nothing because that isnt why you're acquiring Noah Cates. I think a lot of people also fail to realize this was his first time ever playing C and he put up very good results and could even earn a few Selke votes.

This isn't a bad offer by any means but I doubt the Flyers move him at all unless its a humongous overpay. Torts loves him more than any player on the team and it seems like he has a pretty big say in who stays/goes. All of his teammates that have played with him have said he reminds them of a young Couturier which I'm sure also helps.

Oh I know that's why I wanted him is bc of that defensive play and impressive with 40 points with Torts as HC. He would be a great add for all 31 other teams. Got a good one there Philly but just for ACGM stake what would your guy's opinion on what it would take for it to happen? (Regard realism for this sake)

A short term dman is fine since we have Walsh and Nemec waiting in Utica.

Siegenthaler - Hamilton
Hughes - Marino
Bahl - Walsh

…is probably our default to open next season if no one is added. But it’s a lot of youth on blueline for a playoff team. So adding a rental until Nemec arrives in 2024/25 would not be the worst thing.

Siegenthaler - Hamilton
Hughes - Marino
Bahl - Nemec

…for the future

Dude when all those guys develop that is a young and scary blueline. Good on yall for drafting well tbh

I don’t think Gudas would fit here at all. He is probably great for teams that need a thumper. But if we are replacing Graves and Severson, we will need some guys who can move the puck out of the d-zone and into transition. Severson is one the best at this, which is why I think we should consider bringing him back.

Trade -- Free Agent
#4 pick -- Trade
Trade -- #2 pick

We only drafted two of those guys and they were both top-5 picks. We have done well in draft recently with forwards (Bratt, Sharangovich, Gritsyuk were all late picks)…but tbd on dmen.

Oh I'm I should've clarified, I meant to say the depth picks 2. I just like how yall have built your team and haven't missed on draft picks really. Whoever is making the calls on the drafting should deserves at least 10M salary ahhaha
