I'm sure DeBrincat would prefer the 1 year 9M deal, but that still leaves him an RFA, he would only become a UFA after the following season. I'm pretty willing to bet that he would like a short term deal to get him to UFA over a 1yr 9M deal. Given that his performance wasn't up to $9M worth of salary, he'd be hard pressed to get that on the market. Now, given 2-3 years to show that 40G consistency, that might do the trick to allow him to fetch that huge pay day on the open market.
Pinto will not sign for $3M per season, especially since the Sens can't afford that space without making sacrifices to downgrade elsewhere. That said, Pinto only has 1 full season under his belt, with 35 points, 20 of which were goals, impressive, but still only 1 season.
Arizona doesn't fleece here, as Ottawa needs the cap room, and RW depth. 2 teams get needs taken care of.
