if the rumbling around Michkov is not taken into account by DG and Smith goes 3 ... sorry but Carlsson could be 5th.

Carlsson is a top 3 player this draft keep dreaming. Went from mtl always getting Bedard to now a top 3 player dropping where does all this delusion come from?

Probably not, always the chance that Smith goes at 3, Michkov at 4 and then Carlsson at 5, but CBJ want the immediate help that is Carlsson and won't wait the 2 years on Smith in order to get the most out of the Johnny Hockey/Laine core. The real sin here is they think that Dvorsky will be there at 14th.

Do you think Pittsburgh would trade that pick though? They might want immediate help for the end of the Crosby Era so less prospects and more like: (Anderson for playoff grit, Pitlick for Depth, and a prospect to make the value work (Norlinder/Mysak/Kidney/etc). Whoever they draft at 14 will not be ready for 2-3 years so outside Pittsburgh's dying playoff window, but depends on what direction the next GM want to take with the franchise.

It's technically possible depending on how the Michkov situation plays out, and how well Smith has done to raise his draft stock with recent tournaments. Definitely think that Carlsson is going 3rd though, fine by Habs fans as most right now want Michkov and would be happy with Smith.

Pittsburgh would rather trade pick 14 for an impact player such as scheifele. Mtl doesn't have the assets to trade for a 1st within the top 20.

That's fair, I think our GM would like to move into the top 20 but has no real way to do so. I'm assuming a Jets fan? would you make that Scheifele deal?

Smith could be the surprise in the top 5.

So why not just go with Smith? He's definitely more likely to be there than Carlsson. Seems like most mtl fans assume that the best case scenario will happen and have someone drop, trade for a 1st get all the players they want. I'd laugh when they pick Reinbacher and everyone either goes nuts or defends the pick to the end of time

Definitely 14 and some other assets would be great. We get a great prospect at 14 a decent one in the trade and opens up room for new leadership and ice time for players like lucius, lambert, Barron etc

Maybe mtl should be less delusional on what they secretly want to happen. You can't deny that mtl fans would make this agm with full seriousness. The thing is I know it's meant to be fun but with so many mtl agms this shouldn't be a standard or expected

I'd be happy with Smith, he's a great player and Montreal can afford to wait on him while he does his college career. And yeah MTL fans can be a little nearsighted when it comes to the future (That's coming from a Montreal fan if that wasn't obvious). Do I think it's possibly Carlsson drops? Yep. Do I think its a 0.5% chance? Hell yes.

Also I'd be fine with Reinbacher cause we desperately need RHD prospects but not at 5, again I'm team Michkov

They want to contend and scheifele is a bonified 70p center that can be retained so he costs 3m. Show me another available 70 player that has scored 40 and has a cap hit that low that wouldn't cost a whole lot more.

All respect for Morgan Barron btw, guy took that skate like a warrior. Really unfortunate to see the core you guys have start to fall away but hope that if your team does go full rebuild it goes well for you guys, with the asset's you have you could have a really really quick rebuild if you decide to go firesale

Michkov is such a risk tho. Sure he should be a stud but to wait all that time and with the Russian factor I feel like if hughes has to pick between Benson or Michkov he may take a safer play in Benson. If both reach their potential its not a crazy difference and it really insurers that you get a top 6 guy.

Ask first to Crosby if he want him in the Locker room. 70pts or Chemistry, that's the question. I know you westerner like to brag about point, but do your players can finish what they have started or would they be another Big Joe Thorton and choke?!

The team doesn't even need a full rebuild either. It all comes down to helle on that but if we rebuild we're not starting from the bottom and may have a nyr type rebuild with some top picks but we'd actually develop them

100% the risk is there but Montreal is at the point in their rebuild that they can kind of take a bit of a risk (We already have Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf, Dach) we can find someone to fill in that 6th spot if Michkov doesn't work out. If he does though it's the difference between having a solid top 6 guy in Benson and a potentially franchise player in Michkov. No risk no reward and I'd be happy to wait for his contract to be up to get him at 5

I'm not out west lol thanks for assuming that. If crosby wants to compete they need better players and no doubt scheifele would be a drastic improvement and would save cap foe future moves. Scheifele may have locker room issues but he won't have to be a leader on the pens and can be what Kessel was and be a great complementary piece that puts them over the top.

Yeah, I think you guys are in a great spot for a rebuild/retool/add in a few pieces and keep pushing for a cup run.

Like whatever you decide to do its going to go pretty smoothly
