Was super pumped to finally have the Caps back yesterday, and am hoping to go in person soon. The two most important parts of preseason are avoiding injuries and seeing if any prospects surprise. A little worried about TVR on the first front but seems as though he'll be fine. On the second, I thought Suzdalev and Hofer really stood out yesterday. Neither looked like the game was too fast for them which is impressive from later round picks in their first pro action. Suzdalev especially seemed like his playmaking ability could translate to the next level which would be a huge bonus. I thought Lapierre looked pretty decent as well and definitely got physically stronger. Was nice to see Mantha making some confident plays with the puck as well.
As for the negatives, its mostly off the ice with the Kuzy situation. I've defended him before and been much more willing to give him a final chance than a lot of people but this is completely unacceptable. This isn't a Babcock situation where the coach is being actually creepy/unprofessional or one where the Org has been mismanaging injuries (Eichel in BUF, Pearson in VAN for example). Don't care how much you dislike a guy's system, just giving up completely and not trying and then still taking shots at him after he's gone is not ok. It's too late in the summer and he's made himself too much of a negative asset with his play and now talk off the ice (just listen to the 32 thoughts from today) that I think they still have to roll with him this year but I imagine the leash is incredibly short. Can definitely see him getting bought out or traded for nothing in the season if things continue like this.
