Pens could sign a comparable player in FA without spending a pick. Not terrible value though.

Bean is surely worth more than a 6th.

He may be to the right team but the problem I see with Bean is he hasn't really shown anything in the 7 years since he's been drafted that says he is more than a bottom pairing dman with offensive upside. Yes, we've seen glimpses of 2nd pairing potential but they have been too few and far between IMO to say just give him more time and he'll get there. Couple that with a $2.3m cap hit and his value really takes a dive.

True but I thought it might be better because its an expiring deal on a very reasonable cap hit for only a 3rd rounder. FA usually means too much money and term.

I actually want to keep Bean this year. I think he may have a bit of a breakout season. He needs to be on the third line but if he can just stay consistent he might find a niche there.
