    Additional Details:
Salary dump for the Caps, who get their 3rd rounder back. Sabres can afford to take Niskanen's hefty contract. Unsure if BUF would be on Niskanen's 15 team list on M-NMC but a possibility. Adds depth to a Sabres blue-line that needs it, especially if Bogosian gets taken by Vegas.

    Additional Details:
Blockbuster move that opens cap further for WSH, creates new culture in Washington. Aho a somewhat risky acquisition which necessitates the second 1st rounder.

Agreed he's a solid defenseman but the trade for the third sheds his cap hit, which allows Washington to re-sign Shattenkirk who is arguably the better defenseman of the two. You are right that they could get a higher round pick for him but trading him for a roster player makes trading him (and his salary) pointless.

Blues Fan here. Shattenkirk is a poor defender, great powerplay quarterback and a decent offensive defenseman.

I can't imagine CAR giving that up for Ovi, not giving all of that away helps them
