Caps could flip him for way more picks than they spent on him, honestly leafs would not do that trade

No team is trading for a player making $10M with the intention of trading them again for picks. There’s a reason Toronto fans want to trade Marner, here’s a hint his salary is going to be a problem. The Leafs likely going to have to lose a trade for either Marner or Matthews because teams will not want that much salary.

Anyone with common sense or who just understands numbers does not think Washington is a destination for a $10M+ Winger. I can assure you Washington Management will not see Washington as a destination for a $10M+ Winger while Oshie, Backstrom, Carlson, and Kuznetsov are still in Washington. There are not many teams in the League that CAN and WILL trade for a $10M+ Winger without retention. If you needed another reminder today that Kyle Dubas is actually short for DUmBAS$, the Leafs have three $10M+ Forwards for every Round they’ve won in the playoffs the last 20 years.

Why are you dropping a first to move Murray when you can buy him out? At worst you'd spend that NYI third and exchange of other assets.

Also, Pens decline.

I think if they could move Kuzy out -- and it seems like they are trying too -- they totally could fit Marner in. As much as people hate the leafs, Marner is a top 30 player in the league and the Caps desperately need elite talent

I am not concerned about Marner’s talent. I am concerned that he makes almost $11M. No team wants that contract moving forward for a player that is not a Big Game player. Unless the Leafs retain significantly, I don’t think they’ll be able to trade Marner without obviously losing the trade.
