Murphy has more value than perhaps some think. Shot blocking machine, great room guy - chemistry etc, a leader, a solid defender. Plus Ottawa's 2nd in this year's draft, for the 13th overall pick and Chicago replenishes their vacant 4th round slot next season.

Is the 13th overall too much? I believe Murphy's addition to the Sabres blueline would give them their missing piece on the back end, and he is under contract for another four years. Of course he would have to have Buffalo as an approved destination with regard to his M-NTC.

Chicago, of course, while losing a veteran D-man who would make life easier for the young guys, and one of their four 2nd round picks, net themselves a third 1st rounder this year. It's precisely what Davidson wants to do, use his draft capital in quantity to move up, and Murphy could be available to help get it done.

Murphy and 2nd isn't going to get you to pick 13. I like Murphy, but he just doesn't have that value. Also it appears Buffalo already has two 2nds, so I doubt they would move 13th for another one.

I don't think Kevyn Adams uses the 13th in a deal to acquire a player of Murphy's caliber. I think he's a solid player, and I also think the Sabres are looking for a player exactly like him. A more realistic trade to the Sabres' taste is using a 2nd and a player like Lukas Rousek for Murphy. Sabres are looking to shed Olofsson and Chicago needs players/cap addition. He could probably be included too and Sabres would send a third (LA) instead.
