The Kings won't even talk with you until you can get Matthews to 8 years with you prior and retain half or take back Petersen. Also, we are out if you can't get this figured out before we reup Gavrikov.

Otherwise, that is too much of an overpay for a rental. This trade has been beat to death and it doesn't work until you know what Matthews wants, which wont be clear anytime soon.

So you expect the leafs to sign Matthews to a 8 year contract at likely 12million + and for the leafs to retain 50%??

Brutal take

What is wrong with reading comprehension north of the border all of a sudden?

We don't "expect" anything, and that word doesn't occur in the first comment. The point being made, which is the same one we've been unsuccessfully trying to din into Maple Leafs fans since the Game II:5 loss, is that any Matthews to Los Angeles trade is impossible -- not unrealistic, impossible -- unless certain conditions are met, which no sane Toronto adherent, front office or fan, would do.

Not so much reading comprehension but the fact that you seem to be illiterate.

The chance of an Auston Matthews sign and trade is highly unlikely. It seems as if you LA fans are expecting him for peanuts. I am sure that kings management would take the chance on acquiring a 60 goal scoring center as it is no secret that a team in California would be highly attractive to Matthews.

You need to retain half for this season to make the cap work for LA. Teams don’t just have $10M in cap space lying around.

You are trying to sell us the last year of a lease with no evidence that we can get an extension and telling us it’s not a rental. How are we the delusional ones.

Once again, completely missing the point of a simple sentence in plain English. You've convinced us -- no use trying to explain anything to you. Thanks for saving us the effort.

Kings currently have 7.5 million in open cap space. Off loading Kempe at 5.5 million alone would allow this trade to work, not to mention the other players involved. Check your facts!!!!

We have no starting goalie, need to reup Vilardi, reup Kupari, and need a 2LD (Gavrikov).

Everyone wants Matthews and would move a lot if it meant they could have him long-term but:

1. Matthews has a NMC, so if he wants to come here it isn't Toronto that has the bargaining power, it's LA.
2. The Kings scored 4 less goals than Toronto last year, so is scoring worth sacrificing not having a goalie or defense for one year of goal scoring. Especially when the Kings still have to deal with Vegas and Edmonton
3. The Kings could theoretically just wait one season when Kopitar is off the books and sign Matthews without losing an asset.

Whatever the kings needs are that is managements to figure out. However, I am sure that they are all ears on listening to any sort of trade involving Matthews.

As for your other arguments, Matthews NMC does not kick in until July 1 so it is up to Matthews to either sign long term to the Leafs or risk getting traded anywhere around the league.

No guarantee Matthews gets to free agency, let alone choose the Kings if he did

No guarantee with no risk of losing assets sounds good to me. But LA will be a young playoff team who just had $10M come off the books close to home. I'd take my chances there.

But if you are gung-ho on trading him, you got 40ish days to figure it out, from LA's viewpoint waiting decreases the asking price and if for some reason we did trade for him< I'd imagine he's less likely to reup's with us as we wouldn't be able to improve our goaltending or defense. So yeah, we'll wait, it's the best move for Blake in my opinion.

1. We're not the ones trading for Auston Matthews, so we're not ASKING anything for him.
2. We don't EXPECT to get Auston Matthews for nothing, and never said we did, so stop being dishonest and putting words in our mouths. We don't expect to get him (and tear apart our team doing it, so that we look more like the top-heavy, also-ran Maple Leafs and less like the upward-arcing bottom-up Kings) at all.
3. You apparently don't understand the math, either. Having $7.5 million in cap space and trading away Adrian Kempe in order to absorb Matthews' cap hit results in zero cap space, five empty roster slots and essential RFAs Gabe Vilardi, Rasmus Kupari and Tobias Bjornfot to sign, among others.
4. In short, Matthews to Los Angeles in 2023 is an unrealistic, idiotic and downright impossible transaction, as will be proven.

If you are so sold on Matthews; then why even trade him. The reason is you think is on the last year of his contract in Toronto and you want most of the best of the Kings long term.
