Offseason Towards Rebuild

DISCLAIMER**

Not all of these trades have to happen right away. Nor will the offseason look THIS active. All of these moves are POTENTIAL the Jets can make if they look to rebuild. I know it's highly unlikely all of these moves happen, it's just to have an idea where players could go and for what.

Trades
1.
WPG
  1. Lucius, Cruz [Reserve List]
  2. 2023 1st round pick (CAR)
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Value will be a first+, but the Canes won't move roster players.

Winnipeg should certainly rebuild and take futures.
CAR
  1. Ehlers, Nikolaj
Additional Details:
Send him to a true contender. Canes will probably need a bit of help on the wing, and they have the cap space.
2.
WPG
  1. Olausson, Oskar
  2. 2023 1st round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Price won't be that high, his value is not what it once was. But, retention should help that case.

I know Colorado is a division rival, but GM's don't value that as much as people on capfriendly do, and if two teams are going in separate directions, what does it matter?
COL
  1. Scheifele, Mark ($3,062,500 retained)
Additional Details:
Either a TDL move or an offseason/draft move. Ship him off to a contender (probably as a rental)
3.
WPG
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (BUF)
  2. 2024 4th round pick (BUF)
BUF
  1. DeMelo, Dylan
Additional Details:
Solid DFD, one year left, Buffalo could bite.
4.
WPG
  1. Ylönen, Jesse [RFA Rights]
  2. 2023 1st round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
In the ABOSOLUTE EVENT that Hughes wanted Dubois NOW... it would look something like this.
MTL
  1. Dubois, Pierre-Luc [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
The most talked about player of the year award goes to:

Listen, guys... despite what Windjammer tells you, Montreal isn't moving Beck in a trade for Dubois. Nor is another team willing to sell the house for him knowing where he wants to play... and we know where that is. As far as now, he's a rental. and rentals aren't as expensive as players that sign long term.

If Winnipeg can sign him long term, great. I doubt he stays long term.

They could:

Flip him this offseason
OR
Sign him to a 1 year and lose him to FA when they are in rebuild.
5.
WPG
  1. DeBrincat, Alex [RFA Rights]
  2. Thomson, Lassi
Additional Details:
The trade would probably assume extension.
OTT
  1. Hellebuyck, Connor ($3,083,333 retained)
Additional Details:
His time in Winnipeg is over. Send him on his way.
6.
WPG
  1. Murray, Matt
  2. 2023 1st round pick (BOS)
TOR
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (BUF)

Top line C? Woah there bucko.

He's a 2C. Averages 60pts a season, subpar defensive metrics, not the best off ice track record, and has never proven good in the playoffs.

I made this in the ABOLUTE EVENT that Hughes, for some reason, wanted him now. And in the event of this trade, I provided a first, and a young, middle 6 player. Hop off the high horse.

Entitled to your opinion but not your own facts. He tore Toronto a new one when he was in Columbus as exhibit A. There are easily searchable articles on what a strong playoff performer he is.

We’re clearly done here and it’s easy to see why. You view him as a 2c when he is better than Suzuki. He would be the best c on the Habs. Saying he is a 2c means you think there are at least 32 Cs that are better than him.

He scored 63 points in 73 games last season and was above a ppg pace when he picked up the hip flexor injury. He played through it but production did drop.

Plenty of scouting reports indicate that he’s strong defensively. I’m not familiar with which metrics you’re quoting since you didn’t actually provide any proof or send me somewhere I could look up the information for myself. We specifically played him with weak defensive players because he was strong in the d zone.

We couldn’t possibly have opinions further apart about PLD as a player which explains the gap in value. Good news for everyone really because the insulting trade proposal followed up by an insulting UFA offer means he likely doesn’t end up in Montreal and Habs fans don’t really want him nor do they really need him.

I know your comparison to Suzuki was a jab at me for being a Habs fan, but your lack in knowledge on your own players does not come at a surprise. Instead of reading a couple of blogs from hockey writers that make minimum wage writing half-baked opinion pieces on players, maybe look at some objective stats?

"We specifically played him with weak defensive players because he was strong in the d zone"
Hahahahah.

Dubois has actually never been all that good defensively, he's been pretty sheltered. 18 minutes TOI behind Scheifele and has 60% oZone starts on the year. Faces very easy matchups with little to no role difficulty and comes out of it with the most below average defensive impact. And THIS is the guy Winnipeg fans want so much for?
And to your Suzuki comparable (once again), they are both very similar players. Only difference being Suzuki gets slaughtered in his usage because Montreal doesn't have anybody that can bail him out defensively, and also played most of the year with literal AHL players. Meanwhile Dubois had Scheifele and Kyle Connor in his top 6, and a pretty solid group of defensively sound bottom 6 players.

TLDR; With Dubois quality of competition, quality of teammates, role difficulty, and defensive impact... his numbers are subpar to say the least. He's a 2c.
