Toronto should not trade Brodie, he's far from "the problem." Arizona wouldn't take on that Murray contract anyways, makes too much money.
No chance Samsonov makes that little, he will get at least 1M more.
Toronto won't do that Calgary trade and unless the cap goes up more than 1M it likely wouldn't work for the Flames without making additional moves

Samsonov is an RFA.. have all the leverage and can low ball on a deal and get a bit cheaper. Only way Samsonov gets over 4 per is if the deal goes well into UFA years. A 3.2- 3.5 per range is very much what Samsonov should get on a shorter deal

Samsonov has aribtration rights, and starting in 86 games over the last 2 years, 42+ in each. He is by all definition a starting goaltender. He also put up a 0.919sv% this year and a 0.927sv% at 5v5. Now I will say this, Brad Treliving is one of the best RFA negotiators in the league but even he is going to have a very difficult time negotiating that contract below 4M. Every projection model has him listed at 5M+

Leafs have all the leverage here..if Samsonov was set on getting 5+ then the Leafs can just say we have 2 other goalies under contract and can trade Samsonov for a pick or 2. would at least get a 2nd+. Short term deal 3.5 is the number, longer term deal going into UFA years then 4-4.5 on the high end. Either way.. a goalie at 3.5 or a couple draft picks is good for the Leafs

Then trade him. He hasn't proven he's the answer in net. Had a decent regular season, did let in the odd stinker in during the regular season and that didn't change in the playoffs. He is prone to giving up some dreadful bad goals from time to time. He's a tandem starter for the Leafs with Woll next year and if he wants 4+, trade him for assets and keep Murray to tandem with Woll.

If I am Treliving, I am not giving Samsonov more than 3.5 and even then I am not comfortable giving him that much money. The bad goals he gave up in the playoffs are not what I want in a starter. Woll didn't let in any bad ones. If Samsonov wants over 3 I would likely move him.

I really don't think you get what arbitration is if you think Toronto has all the leverage. Also you signed him 2 a 3 year deal above, that buys 2 UFA years.
