For starters, DeBrincat doesn't fit the Verbeek player profile.

Second, that's next year's first and 33OA, which may as well be another first. The 24 1st is still likely fairly high, so we are paying to much for a natural left winger to play his off side, and I think his value has taken a hit with how bad defensively he has been.

Third, Ottawa wants the rebuild over and is in win now, this is stepping backwards for them.

1) Disagree that DeBrincat doesn’t fit Verbeek’s profile. Him and Terry are the same age and they both are an excellent 1-2 punch on the right side. Also gives us quality depth that we really need at RW.

2) I’ll agree with you that adding next years 1st is too much so I don’t mind taking that out and probably taking out Ottawa’s 2024 4th rounder. If his natural position is LW then that’s fine cause we can keep Zegras at 1C, move Terry back up to 1RW. McTavish and Fantilli are good as 2LW and 2C and either Vatrano or Silfverberg at 2RW. Preferably Vatrano.

3) Good Luck to Ottawa but their cap situation doesn’t look good even if they do get rid of DeBrincat for more cap room.
