Teams will pay more for him as a rental. Definitely not getting him with that offer

They would easily get more from another team. Even if they waited until the deadline they would get more.

He's not playing for the Jets this year. He'll be traded this summer. Like I said, I don't believe Habs pay more. So the Jets only chance is to hope a team pays their asking price with the hope that he signs a long term deal with his new team.

He wont sign long term anywhere. He will either want a 1 year or a 3-5 year so he can get paid again when the cap goes up.

It would be hilarious if MTL ends up with nothing after this PLD saga is over

Maybe so, so what are you offering to the Jets for a player that has passed the 65 point mark in a season, and has given up on two teams?

As a rental he would cost a 1st and top prospect... so the price has to at least be that but probably more. However the Jets want a young roster player in return so it could be a 1 for 1 for a comparable player.

That's a fair argument. I just don't see Montreal paying more. In any deal for PLD, Habs need to send a current C the other way. It won't be Suzuki or Dach. As for prospects, I don't think there are any PLD comparables in the pipeline right now. Seeing as the Habs won't be contenders for at least another two years, if Hughs thought he had a comparable in his prospects, he wouldn't waste it on acquiring PLD.
