I don't think retention is required in the Sharks trade. Or the pick.

As reports come out that Danny wants more and more for Hart, these trades to Buffalo get worse and worse by the day, ironic lol

Pick could probably be dropped. Without retention it leans to much in the Sabres favor and I don't think SJ even bothers. They want to clear cap as quickly as they can, so retention sweetens the deal for them.

GMDB can ask for 27 first, doesn't mean he will get it. Goalies don't typically fetch their asking price. Briere has publicly stated that Philly is rebuilding so its likely a tear down is coming and I doubt he is going to want to carry $10 million in goal contracts during that process.

Trade gives him their early second round pick back this year, a cost controlled goalie to plug in behind Peterson and a solid young middle 6 winger that is NHL ready.

Could they get a first+? maybe, but it won't come with any young NHL ready players.

Maybe I'm wrong, but this looks like a forward and defenseman who both need a new start from both teams.

That’s where ur wrong we don’t need another goalie. We have Ersson that the org believes can be the game 1 starter and Peterson as the back up. There’s a world where our goalie Fedotov comes over from Russia finally and he is the back up and Peterson is buried in the AHL. So we don’t need another goalie. The trade just isn’t enough for Hart. Someone will pay more.

At its core sure. I'd say BUF is getting the better side of the FWDs who are similar in age and price. Lebanc is the better all around FWD while Olofsson is a PP specialist. SJ is probably getting the better part of the defensive side as they are getting a cost controlled young defenseman. May not be a perfect trade, but I think it has bones.

I think the value is pretty fair, but there will likely be someone who will over pay for sure, especially for teams that lose out on the Hellebuyck sweepstakes.

Conceptually, I like it and we're jammed up on LD right now anyways in San Jose. Personally, I'd do the trade without picks/retention.

Last 3 years:

Hart : 44-58-22 .900
UPL: 20-19-6 .897

Why in the world are you giving a 2nd and Rousek and + $3.1mm for basically the same production?

Hart = UPL.

They are the same.

I Illustrated above, but for your viewing pleasure:

Hart : 44-58-22 .900
UPL: 20-19-6 .897

Hart has name recognition and more GP. That's about it.

UPL can easily put up better numbers next year. Silly to give up assets and cap space for Hart.

.003 sv% is the difference between bad and not bad? what about win%?

At least back up whatever you are talking about.

Why would BUF give up a pick, a prospect and $3.1mm for a goalie with a .355 win% and give up a goalie with a .444 win%. Makes no sense.

A dozen or so GMs disagree with you otherwise they would be looking to trade for him and not Hart lol. Stats don’t mean anything when nobody cares about you

Hart has also had increasing better stats each year with an increasingly worse defense. The trend of Hart is up, while UPL is still just pure potential.
