Avs would probably rather take the chance on Malinski or Merkley coming to fruition than make that trade. Adding D is not a need. Adding a C is and if they trade any of the few picks they have for the next three drafts it is likely to be on one of those.

That's fair, Merkley still has some fair upside imo. Durzi could really go to any contending team for that price and succeed, but it's understandable that the Avs wouldn't be interested.

Fair point. I think a team would be acquiring him on the idea that he provides offensive punch immediately and improves his defense to solidify his Top 4 spot as time goes on. But, I see what you mean.
