No from Toronto. One cap dump and a 2nd that doesn’t even cover that cap dump with a kid that doesn’t look all that special out there. He seems to be trending into a decent 2-way player with skating issues. Not terrible skating for a 2nd/3rd liner but definitely not 1st line or 1st overall caliber.

Try Laf and miller and come back. If no, no hard feelings — Leafs keep their 40 goal, 87 point, 27 year-old that was their best player on many a night.
Leafsleaks123 and SNipeSHowInc liked this.

I admit that I haven't seen enough of Laf to make any "eye test" I have never heard his skating is an issue. This certainly could become a good trade if Laf hits but it's certainly risky. And likely comes out looking pretty bad.

I have the same thoughts except maybe Schneider instead of Miller because there’s no way the rangers are trading Miller

He was awesome in junior, a man among boys. Even in the WJC he looked all-world. His size isn’t nearly the advantage it was in junior and his skating has looked below average. It has picked up at times. Last years playoffs he looked like he took a step forward but this years playoffs he look to have regressed. He just doesn’t seem to do anything exceptional in the NHL. He does look like he’s going to be a very good player someday but that looks like 60-70 points and solid play in the corners. That could change as it does take power forwards longer to establish themselves. There is some concern however that he does not have overwhelming size or plus skating to allow him to be that impact player. He looks more comfortable as a 3rd liner and out of place in the top 6 currently.

Would I still take a chance on him, for sure. But at this point Byfield looks to have higher upside. Byfield still needs to fill out, but his skating and speed look much better. Two players that despite their high draft position have struggled but one just passes the eye test a little better. Laf in junior did make all the plays, so maybe his IQ will shine through at one point.

The contract you built for K´andre Miller is no where near accurate at all. I get that you want him to remain on your team but there is a price to pay for players that are young and productive. Talent requires investment. His production alone last season will guarantee him a minimum contract of most likely $5 million a year for 3-4 years. Frankly, hes probably worth $6 million given his age and leap in production from last year to this year. If not i would fear an offer sheet on a player like Miller. The only compensation the Rangers would get at a contract of $6 million is a 1st and 3rd round picks. Miller is probably worth more than that in a trade. Given the Rangers cap situation a cap hit of $6 million would really put them in a bind when it comes to filling out the rest of the roster.
