No interest in Pesce, but fail to see why leafs would do this. Yes - Necas is a decent player (also younger , cheaper and RFA, not UFA) & draft picks are nice but Nylander > Necas and picks are 3-5 years away from contributing. FA class is really poor this year so no way to replace nylander despite picks and more cap room. Necas + picks not enough for Willy imo

idk realistically the leafs lose any trade they make with the core four. they'll probably do it anyway though cause something needs to change and the extra cap space gives options to be a bit more creative.

What would you sub for Suzuki? Toronto doesn’t really want another small forward.

i like suzuki for toronto. he's 6'0 which is decent and he's still young so he can build more muscle. i've seen discussion about moving tavares to the wing more often to make up for potentially trading marner or nylander so i figured toronto would want the center depth. plus can you imagine the brother vs brother matchup every time they play montreal it's golden.

i mean if nylander can win you cup who cares right? maybe he walks maybe he takes a discount to stay on a cup winning team either way it doesn't matter if you win.

yamamoto is low risk high reward if he plays up to his potential and if not he's on a one year

and i think you're undervaluing cat, sure i don't believe he's played as good as he can but he's also been on some pretty bad chicago and ottawa teams. he's all upside to me.

if Nylander could win us a cup, Toronto would be a lot more successful in the playoffs.
Yama is a mighty mite. We need more size.
Cat is a perimeter player with limited defense. I dont see him as much of a fit

Toronto can’t win a cup because they don’t have the defense, goaltending or depth scoring. The canes have better goaltending and defense. Nylander was also the only member of the core four showing some life and fight in the Florida series (straight from the DFO rundown). Nylander alone won’t win you a cup, but he’s a player that if you can re-sign for under 10 million will push your team to another level.

all of that is fine but we cant say Nylander is going to win us a cup based on prior performances. Who knows how randomness of the playoffs will go anyways.

thats not fair to nylander toronto is actually cursed or something
i agree on the size thing but thats why you got guys like martinook, staal, and noeson. and thats why you get guys like soucy who's 6'5
as for cat i could be over confident in our system but i truly feel like anyone's defense could be improved on an rba coached team

I don’t agree with your randomness take but whatever. Acquiring players like Nylander increases your chances of winning in the postseason so

Saying Nylander is no good or not good enough is like saying Aho and the whole current Canes team has the same issue. You can’t blame one player for his teams failure to win it all. Nylander was very good in the regular season and in the playoffs this year. He was the Leafs best player on many nights.

Why was he not playing in the playoffs for Carolina when they were so thin at forward?

idk but if i had to guess id say its probably because he's a center and they were pretty healthy at center aside from the two games drury was hurt. or it could just be because he hadn't had any regular season games and weren't wiling to take the risk throwing a rookie in the playoffs. he is pretty high energy though and once he gets some nhl action i think he can be very useful.
