idk but if i had to guess id say its probably because he's a center and they were pretty healthy at center aside from the two games drury was hurt. or it could just be because he hadn't had any regular season games and weren't wiling to take the risk throwing a rookie in the playoffs. he is pretty high energy though and once he gets some nhl action i think he can be very useful.

Yama is a mighty mite. We need more size.
Cat is a perimeter player with limited defense. I dont see him as much of a fit</div></div>
thats not fair to nylander toronto is actually cursed or something
i agree on the size thing but thats why you got guys like martinook, staal, and noeson. and thats why you get guys like soucy who's 6'5
as for cat i could be over confident in our system but i truly feel like anyone's defense could be improved on an rba coached team

Cat is meh</div></div>
i mean if nylander can win you cup who cares right? maybe he walks maybe he takes a discount to stay on a cup winning team either way it doesn't matter if you win.
yamamoto is low risk high reward if he plays up to his potential and if not he's on a one year
and i think you're undervaluing cat, sure i don't believe he's played as good as he can but he's also been on some pretty bad chicago and ottawa teams. he's all upside to me.

i like suzuki for toronto. he's 6'0 which is decent and he's still young so he can build more muscle. i've seen discussion about moving tavares to the wing more often to make up for potentially trading marner or nylander so i figured toronto would want the center depth. plus can you imagine the brother vs brother matchup every time they play montreal it's golden.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchMafia</b></div><div>No interest in Pesce, but fail to see why leafs would do this. Yes - Necas is a decent player (also younger , cheaper and RFA, not UFA) & draft picks are nice but Nylander > Necas and picks are 3-5 years away from contributing. FA class is really poor this year so no way to replace nylander despite picks and more cap room. Necas + picks not enough for Willy imo</div></div>
idk realistically the leafs lose any trade they make with the core four. they'll probably do it anyway though cause something needs to change and the extra cap space gives options to be a bit more creative.

Don'tlike the Keller trade. Why include Teravainen when we already need more scoring? Valimaki isn't needed, as nice as it would be to have him.</div></div>
i know he was hurt a good bit of the year but turbo only had 12 goals. i felt like if any roster player was gonna go back the other way it would have to be him. it helps make keller's cap hit a bit easier to take plus if i had to choose between the two keller is the clear upgrade. valimaki was added under the assumption we don't/can't bring back ghost though it's possible i undervalued valimaki. as for olofsson im just really hoping that under our system his defense could be improved at least slightly. i just feel like those 28 goals he had last year could have really helped us.

valid point. i just can't stop looking at his stats and wondering if those 28 goals could have made a difference in the canes losing four straight one goal games. plus only a one year deal so if he is absolutely not the guy there are always options to get rid of him. you're right though a 2nd rounder is a bit much to give up for such a risk.

i've heard that a lot about olofsson. my thought process was that maybe under a brind'amour coached team his defense could at least be brought up to average. or at the very least decent enough to be carried by line mates like staal, martinook, or fast.

yeah since posting this and giving it some more thought i think a more realistic option for the yotes would be erik portillo from the kings or dylan garand from the rangers.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyIsMyPassion61</b></div><div>That garbage doesn't get Clayton Keller, And that offer is easily beaten.
Calgary isn't trading both Markstrom and Wolf, First off Markstrom doesn't waive for that dump. He's not wasting his time on a team that doesn't care about winning. And Wolf would be replacing Markstrom.
And that garbage offer doesn't get Nick Schmalyz either, Detroit has interest in him and would offer better than that crap.</div></div>
fair, i kinda went at the mindset that if keller refuses to play in arizona it lowers his value a bit. so i figured milano fills the roster spot, miroshnichenko should've been a top 10 pick, and an extra 1st rounder in very deep draft would be solid but i guess it really just depends on how arizona and keller wanna play it.
with markstrom and wolf i flubbed it a bit. just from checking forums on the top goalie prospects it felt like calgary would be most likely (if likely at all) to move a goalie prospect cause they just came off a disappointing season and they have a new gm. and i was banking on the hypothetical waiving of marktroms nmc to get him a change of scenery, probably work out a deal where he gets moved at the deadline.
as for schmaltz i'll admit it was hard to get a read on his value. lot of conflicting opinions in some circles. noeson just came off a career year, chatfield has decent upside, and again more picks in a deep draft could get it done.

probably not but i figured since calgary's got a new gm and they were one spot out this past season maybe arizona could take advantage. give calgary some needed cap relief, a goalie to tandem with vladar, and some picks to get the deal done.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>Yet we still have a drastic overpayment for Marner. Canes would love to have him, but it’s not realistic whatsoever, unless they sign him in UFA. Canes aren’t going to move roster pieces, and it would have to be a futures based package for Marner. Not to mention, with the Canes cap situation, they would have a hard enough time keeping him at the end of this upcoming season, let alone for the season after. Not to mention, with 2 years remaining on his deal, the Canes have no control over negotiations for a new contract. Besides, Shanahan promised that the core won’t be moved, so Marner isn’t going anywhere until his contract is up.</div></div>
honestly i feel like any "realistic" trade for marner at this point is gonna be an overpayment. i see your point tho, but just from things i've read if the leafs do trade him the expected package was gonna have to include some roster players. and i figured for the sake of this hypothetical if marner gets you a cup it lessens the sting of not having necas or marty. as for the cap situation i had the thought process that the canes would see where they were at with an aho extension and if that didn't work out focus all attention on marner and work from there. plus staal and burns would be off the books that year too.

no to ghost at that price or do you think he wont come back? as for yamamoto i kinda just felt like it was a low risk move. if a change of scenery helps him awesome but if not he can chill in the press box or we can throw him on waivers for a little cap relief heading into the deadline.

Staal could get more in FA market, but I see big possibility of him giving a "hometown" discount
Otherwise IMO trades are well value based. (but idk what Carolina needs and wants, so I wont evaluate this.)</div></div>
idk i based the staal and fast contract on their exit interviews. staal said he wanted to retire a hurricane and fast said his family loved being in raleigh. as for ghost i kinda just figured the marner trade would be part of negotiations. take the cut to win a cup kinda deal
