Olofsson is a no a full cap hit and over a 3rd round pick. He isn’t close to a style fit. His scoring is immediately erased by his defense

i've heard that a lot about olofsson. my thought process was that maybe under a brind'amour coached team his defense could at least be brought up to average. or at the very least decent enough to be carried by line mates like staal, martinook, or fast.

The problem is he would be spending a high price and cap for a 4LW because he wouldn’t be trusted in 5v5. It really isn’t a good move for us

Pass on Olofsson at that price. He's AWFUL defensively. Undoes the scoring

Don'tlike the Keller trade. Why include Teravainen when we already need more scoring? Valimaki isn't needed, as nice as it would be to have him.

valid point. i just can't stop looking at his stats and wondering if those 28 goals could have made a difference in the canes losing four straight one goal games. plus only a one year deal so if he is absolutely not the guy there are always options to get rid of him. you're right though a 2nd rounder is a bit much to give up for such a risk.

We can't go after roster players who would be a 'work in progress'. That's a no-go with Canes mgmt. Waddell and Rod go after players who are excellent fits. We have no room for player projects anymore. I think some of us are justifying trade candidates with less than complete reasoning. Oloffson wasn't the margin of error in the ECF. Or a cup run either. Only wish it were that simple.

Quoting: the
The Buffalo Sabres, who ranked third in the NHL for goals scored this past season, were the only team that missed the playoffs despite ranking top 12 in goals scored.

Buffalo is an elite offensive team that needs to do a better job defensively of preventing goals against. Upgrading the top four and goaltending will be the most impactful way to help that cause. But the situation also shines a spotlight on Victor Olofsson.

Olofsson is a one-dimensional goal scorer with major defensive warts making $4.75 million through next season. He scored 28 goals but only added 12 assists and his all-around game was so poor that he was healthy scratched for a handful of Buffalo’s most important games during the final month of the season.

this is The Athletic's write up on why he should be moved

i know he was hurt a good bit of the year but turbo only had 12 goals. i felt like if any roster player was gonna go back the other way it would have to be him. it helps make keller's cap hit a bit easier to take plus if i had to choose between the two keller is the clear upgrade. valimaki was added under the assumption we don't/can't bring back ghost though it's possible i undervalued valimaki. as for olofsson im just really hoping that under our system his defense could be improved at least slightly. i just feel like those 28 goals he had last year could have really helped us.

No worries, brother. Let's go after some meaty fish. Think big. Go big. The best way to strengthen our bottom 6 is to add to our top 6. Think about it.

My typical Olofsson to Carolina trade is Olofsson(50%) for a 2024 3rd that becomes a 2nd if he scores 20 or more goals.

If it were me, I would be on the phone with Calgary, Arizona, Toronto, too. I know the Canes like Lindholm and Nylander. I do, too. Those would be my top two choices. From AZ I would look at Schmaltz or Keller. Not sure who all will actually be available yet. Not really big on anyone from Winnipeg. And then you never know what surprise asset will pop up out of nowhere. There's that. We'll find out soon. But Don works the phones with every option he can find. Haven't really thought about middle-6 or depth D yet. Waiting to see where the big fish expedition goes.
