well that top 6 is certainly killer. They'll need to be on the ice most of the night.

Pens after Guentzel come back Tatar add
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jeremy_Go_Pens</b></div><div>Yeah, I think so. He's, by far, the best offensive option in FA right now and there're many teams that would like to have him. It's hard to predict where he will play, but of course I hope to see him playing in Pitt. We'll find out in few weeks.</div></div>
Not sure I evaluate him as high as you do. I think we'll be doing the hockey trade route like some other teams for more substantial impact.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jeremy_Go_Pens</b></div><div>Maybe. But it's a different scenario at this point. Look at Dumba contract. Less than 4M. No one expected that in the beginning of FA. But, right now, most teams have much less cap space. If he want to get more money, he'll have to play for a non-contender. I don't think any contender will give him more than 2M or 2.5M at this point.</div></div>
I think we're on the same page here. Dumba is very suspect at this point. I didn't think his offer was a big surprise at all. It's a prove it deal. Tatar is a bit different. He's more proven. Yes, I think $2-2.5M for him sounds about right. If he was good with $1M NY or NJ could handle that now. I think NJ would take him back at that price. He may be waiting for teams to finish up and clear space which will happen here very soon. Several others are in that same boat.

If Tatar can only manage $1M for 1 year that's very telling. Surely a dozen teams would have jumped on that already, yes?

Calgary and Carolina Trade Again - Credit to Caniac2000
I would not do this if I were the Canes. They are both on expiring contracts, but Backlund is 34. Skjei is 29. He still has some extension life left. I would love to have had Backlund as a depth signing but we're done with that now. We need that one remaining elite forward piece.

This trade scenario has been played out. I think Nylander ends up re-signing with Toronto. In any case, I don't see the Canes parting with Necas right now.

I don't think Marchment is the guy we need anymore. I liked him and sorry we missed out on him last year, but that no longer fits this roster now.

Disagree on addressing the depth issue. Don't think they completely solved that. I think that is a casualty of the EK trade. Small issue but you moved out your #2 goalie. Now Ned is in that spot. Comfortable with that?

They gave up half their roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brgh4life</b></div><div>The sent 3 overpaid players, 2 of which were huge negatives last season, and a few picks for a Norris trophy winner. It's definitely a win.</div></div>
You might be exaggerating on the players you moved out, but for the sake of argument... while some seem happy to see them go at their current cost, they still may be better than what you have to fill out the bottom of the roster with. As one Pens poster put it, you moved a bunch of guys out for one really expensive guy. I don't think the main issue is whether EK stays healthy or maintains his level of play, but what this does to depth. Dubas has a penchant for leaning too much on star power at the expense of the bottom half of the roster. We watched that play out in Toronto. And we haven't even talked about the goaltending yet. Look, it's probably best we circle back to this conversation in 82 games. Everyone has work left to do. First prediction. EK doesn't win the Norris again.

AAAAAHHHHH IT HAPPENED
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_Gardoki</b></div><div>My thing here is people flamed me hard when I said...
1) Dubas had all the leverage and Grier had none.
2) Dubas won't have to use a 1st unless Petry and/or Granlund would get moved, and that even if both were moved it would only be one first.
3) That SJ would not get even close to the return they'd hope for because of Greier's lack of leverage.
They all said:
1) The Pens have no leverage
2) They'll have to use most of their picks and prospects they have just to move Petry and Granlund.
3) Nobody would ever trade for Rutta
4) DeSmith is a bum and nobody would ever want him.
5) They don't have the prospect pool to make this all happen.
In the end, Dubas spent a 1st (top ten protected), 2nd and Legare ( a crap prospect ) to not only get Petry, Granlund, DeSmith and Rutta off the books, but also get EK, a 3rd rounder and a decent depth forward.</div></div>
Relax man. You're preaching to the wrong person. I wasn't in on any of that. Always best to let the season play out. Then declare victory.
