Pesce wants 8 years and north of 7 million. If he would sign that, he'd be extended

Don't think this deal, which has been posted more times than I can remember, will improve the team.

Anaheim isn't in win now mode so, why do this that cheaply? If they were looking for a RD why wouldn't they just send that pick plus a little to CBJ and go after the much younger Peeke?

Veteran defensive D like Brodie who can play your top pair are needed for young rebuilding teams in my opinion You're not in win now mode but you should be starting to progress towards being competitive after drafting Drysdale, MacTavish, Zegras, Carlsson etc. But, to each their own of course. No wrong answer there. If you're well out of a playoff spot you may be able to recoup those assets at the deadline anyway. If you're not then he would probably helped you guys taking the next step. He is still a very good D and a guy you might be able to sign cheap when he expires.

likely somewhere around that number. I think the Canes would be okay with 5 years but maybe 6. 7 or 8 is not in the cards.

It seems like a given that at least one of Pesce or Skjei will be traded after the additions of Orlov and TDA as well as their lack of scoring from these playoffs. Leafs and Canes seem like a perfect match, what do you think of the trade itself?

You at least make a valid argument. I disagree they should but again you do have some points. I however, would if I were Verbeek want more back or less out.

I've been seeing $6.5 a lot, the absolute max should be 7 mil in my opinion. The evidence seems to point to them being willing to trade him after the acquisitions of Orlov and DeAngelo. One of those D is going to be making too much further down the lineup on a team that should reasonably be looking to upgrade upfront.

Maybe it's not the right fit then. Brodie is a surefire top 4, and a solid half to a shutdown pair. He's less underrated now that people have caught on to his defensive abilities and has typically been a great partner for young/inexperienced puck movers (think Rielly, Drysdale, etc.) I did think it would make sense from my limited vantage point not being a ducks fan so I appreciate the feedback. I guess it's fair to assume that a contender would probably be willing to pay more.

That said, I think you guys should definitely look to start making your ascent as I think you've acquired the key pieces you need to build around. Hopefully Drysdale gets the support he needs to allow him to reach his full potential.

Neither DeAngelo or Orlov affect Pesce. A LD and a 3rd pairing D man do not make one of the best right shot defensemen in the NHL available. Pesce wants more than 7, funny enough he's worth it. It's the term that's putting the Canes off. If it was a 3/4 year deal, he'd be signed.

As for you mentioning the Canes needing to upgrade up front... no, not really. They need Svechnikov's leg to stay in one piece and Teravainen's hand to not get broken on a tomahawk chop from JG Pageau. With one or both of those two 70% healthy (not 100 because no one is 100% healthy in the playoffs) this team beats Florida... they don't need to do anything now.

But at least he included MacDermid in this. Any trade to get that scrub off the roster gets my attention.

It’s absolutely not the right fit compared to just adding Peeke. Bolts was spot on. If it’s a 2 and 5 for Peeke, the ducks just give a 2 and 5 and go that direction. Or add Myers for nearly nothing. No need to dump assets on an expiring UFA while assuredly missing playoffs this year

he can be buried in the AHL without any implications, Dermy isn't a problem they need to trade. they like him in the regular season for reasons i dont understand

no matter, this trade stinks for both teams. Can the leafs afford a 8x8.5mil extension of Toews? The Avs certainly don't want to pay another winger 9mil +.

Ducks aren’t spending a 2nd round pick for a player who’s aging and coming off an injury

Healthy they beat Florida? Really? Carolina got swept 4-0 stop 🛑. Do they need to upgrade fowards probably not but assuming you'd win a series you won ZERO games in is a really big stretch. Boston and Toronto thought the same thing. "We want Florida" how'd that work for Toronto?

With Svechnikov healthy and Teravainen able to close his hand on his stick, they win that series. Or even if Pacioretty's achilles doesn't blow up. Two games went to overtime and one was settled with 4 seconds left. Carolina beat the absolute crap out of the Panthers in that series too you seem to forget. With a little more shooting talent healthy, they win that series. It very easily could have been a sweep the other way if the Canes had one of the three healthy. It's probably more likely to be the Canes in 6, but they definitely win.
