Off the top of my head... That you can't do what you just listed. If he is bought out, another team would need to sign him. And I assume he would then not be able to be traded back to the original team for a period of time or maybe even for the duration of the contract.

I don't have the official rule but I know what you did here is against the rules.

Can't resign a player you boughtout until a year passes I think.

They could trade him elsewhere and if that other team happens to buy him out ala Brooks Orpik...unless that loophole was sealed, don't remember.

That’s interesting but I wonder if even that’s against the rules because you would basically have to have an under the table agreement that they buy him out and that Brodie resigns for league min

It might be unofficially/officially against the rules now, WSH got criticism for it but it's not like they reacquired him right away either.
