Trade talks have broken down between Colorado and most other teams. NYI is the only team seriously pursuing Duchene.

However, now that Eberle is in blue and orange (well... OUR blue and orange with a circular logo), the Islanders have gone from a team that needed more forwards to a team that just wants more forwards. In short, the demand for Duchene has gone down, and so would his price.

A very recent rumor was that Duchene would go for Strome, de Haan and likely a mid draft pick. With Strome now in blue and orange (err, THEIR blue and orange with a circular logo), Nelson likely takes his place. Nelson has produced at a much higher rate than Strome recently, so the draft pick becomes unnecessary. Colorado could hold out for a better offer later, however Sakic has already scared too many suitors away. Acquiring a young, regular 20-25 goal scorer and an expert shot blocking defenseman (which are crucial in today's game) might be a good way for Sakic to cut losses and move on.
