Could they be a fit

Created by: sens65
Team: 2023-24 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2023
Published: Jun. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Duclair should be a good fit once again but there's no way I'm putting him together with Batherson, two shall we say "defensively lax" players.

Lafreniere contract is a two-year prove it deal and if he does prove it there will be a large extension waiting for him at the other end.

No idea if Adin Hill would sign in Ottawa but they could use the $3.7 million in cap space for any solid UFA goalies on the market.

You are subtracting about $6.5m from NYR, and Cat would take about $8? So it would be really tough to make work for NYR as Goodrow is their main $ piece to move as it is.

Why is Laffy in the trade if he isn't on the roster?

Cap won’t work, and Schneider going makes a big whole on defence to fill with no cap space. Prob not the best trade partners right now.

I agree but if New York wants DeBrincat (and they may not, but if they do) then they'll have to make it work. A $1.5 million discrepancy is not huge.

Yeah haha, typical me trading for him and forgetting to sign him. I updated it now.

One-sided trade. Rangers reject, and It's not even close.

Problem is you are trading 3 NHLers for basically only one current NHLer. Ostapchuk is essentially a Goodrow replacement after 1-3 years in the AHL. Thompson isn't an NHL defenseman. While Debrincat is the top piece here, you are just subtracting too much from a win now team that won't have the cap space to sign the replacement players needed after the extension for Debrincat. I also don't see NYR selling low on Laffy before giving him the opportunity that Laviolette spoke about in his presser today, and I know they really love Schneider. It'll essentially need to be a blow me away type package which isn't really what was offered here.

DeBrincat is objectively better than Lafreniere right now and it isn't close. So I can understand how you don't like this trade but it is not one sided.

Goodrow is a cap dump, especially for the Rangers. The Rangers get the best player in the deal by a long shot.

Do you not realize that a goodrow buyout actually gives NYR more cap space the next two years? Even year 3, its under 1.5m. The only year, year 4, that has a high cap hit is the year after Trouba and Panarin are off the books. That plus cap increases = no reason for NYR to have concern. They will not pay to dump his contract AT ALL
