As a fan of the flames I love this deal. However, I don't think Vancouver does. I could be wrong though. Vancouver ownership seems to want to win now and not rebuild. Kadri is clearly a more effective player at this point in his career and the Ekman-larsson trade happened which looks quite a lot like this. The salary retention would not happen though.

On the flip side I think what Calgary does this offseason will determine if this is a direction they want to go. If they're selling off players like Elias Lindholm, Noah Hanifin, Tyler Toffli, Etc... for future assets than this would make more sense. I think they will try to explore more lucrative deals though. I.E not treating Kadri as a contract/salary dump which might be difficult due to the term and salary.

Vancouver isn't going to make a trade like this weeks after buying out a very similar contract to Kadris

Good we don't want Myers anyhow he's not even worth half his cap hit. Kadri is likely to still be pretty good for another 3-5 years and still useful in a depth role longer than that.
