I would be pretty wary of retaining on Garland. a. Because I don't think he is particularly overpaid. And b. because I think you only get 2 retention slots? (might be 3). I wouldn't want to have one tied up for 3 yrs because they allow you to make deadline deals much easier.

If you extend Skjei for any reasonable length, then Nikishin (whom the front office considers untouchable) ends up at 3LD until he reaches FA. It's possible, but it would be an odd use of assets, IMO.

In that case I think the deal is fair. It gives the Canucks more cap flexibility and Canes get a good middle 6 winger.

If I’m Allvin, I’m accepting that Canes trade. For for both sides imo. Garland will flourish there.
