I do the Hawk trade....fair value for the picks and Garland won't get in the way of anything and doesn;t really cost anything in this proposal.

Canucks don’t need to dump Garland or anyone else anymore after the OEL buyout. No reason to downgrade pick to move a contract. Canucks pass

I agree. I think Rathbone would need to go through waivers though and so I figure it might be time to finally see if he can stick and if not, trade him where he can get more of a chance.

I don't think the OEL buyout means that the Canucks shouldn't value cap space. This free agent class is weak and the extra flexibility can give them options to get assets back to take on bad contracts or be a broker of other teams. Moreover, it gives them the opportunity to add free agents or trade targets later on that fit the team's new identity. I actually really like Garland but its clear he does not fit the team's long term plans.

I really think it depends on who is there at the 11th pick. I'm personally high on Simashev and feel like the Canucks could trade down and still get him.
