Tbh you probably don’t have to give up a 3rd to take on Yamamoto. It’s probably more like a 5th, because the Oilers have next to no cap and are on the verge of just buying out his contract.

Yzerman already said that he's not moving assets for rentals, Unless it's for long term players that fit our young core and Marcus Foligno doesn't. He has no interest in them.

They're WAY more likely to buy him out than to spend a 2nd moving his full contract. But chances are someone will trade a mid round pick for him.

But doesn’t that give them Yamamotos cap hit for next year?

Total buyout is 433k this season, and 533k next (when the cap is expected to rise by 5%.)

The buyout is dirt cheap - the 2nd has more value. Or do you mean if someone trades for him? Sure they get his cap hit, but he's also a good player. He scored 20 goals in his last healthy season. This year his scoring was down but he was dealing with concussion-like symptoms all season. That would put a dent in anyone's performance.
