Realistic with Bergy

Created by: Trmaus12
Team: 2023-24 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 22, 2023
Published: Jun. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming we can get Bergeron to return for cheap, this is what I've got:

- Buyout Reilly, very first move.
- Trade Forbort to Seattle if they cannot resign one of their D. This could also be a different team with a FC return.
- Sign Sway to whatever bridge deal we need to give him, this is a must. He deserves it.
- Bring in OEL, or a different playoff experienced cheap 3rd pair D, to assist with Zboril's production.
- If we are going to get Bertuzzi back, Hall or Ullmark needs to go, I suspect Sweeney will want to treasure and keep Ullmark, so we dump Hall to whatever team he can go to for a decent return.
- Fill out bottom half of defense with cheaper UFA options, if we don't want to sign Freddy we could trade him for a good return and sign a cheaper option. Sweeney reportedly wants Hathway back too, even though he really isn't a third liner, we run him on the third line and hope he plays up to his position.

Don't see Swayman signing that for 2 years, maybe 1 year. Bertuzzi will get more, at least $6M. Hathaway gets more too, likely in the $1.75M range.

Merkulov should be on the team next year, hoping 3LW.

I do see Swayman signing that exact deal, and Hathaway is not worth more than 1.25mil - he's a New England kid and will sign for that to stay here. Betuzzi will need $6mil though.

I agree Hall has to go. I would also love to see Grzelcyk moved for a 2nd or 3rd rounder. He's proven he can't play in the playoffs, and with being #2 in the league last year in +/- , his trade value is as high as it's ever going to be.

Would rather see them sign a veteran like a Paul Stastny for $1mil than to bring back Nosek.

Do you really think $1mil is going to be the going rate for OEL? I'm not disagreeing, just genuinely curious. I was asked the other day to put a number on him and I couldn't do it.

Final note, I don't think Zboril can be in your starting 6 next year. He's been a project since 2015, it's time to cut the dead weight. I get the low salary number is something we need, but if you move him for a 7th, you can sign Kevin Shattenkirk for 1 year 1 mil or maybe even bring back Clifton

Yea I can see Hathaway signing cheap, that's why I guessed that price for him. Bert could defiantly get more, this price was just what I had seen reported, probably not going to happen, but he really liked his time in Boston, and Sweeney is pushing to try and keep him.

I know a lot of people want Gryz gone, but For the kind of player he is, I'm hoping the Bruins keep him, or at least try to replace him with someone like Durzi. It's hard to find a D that has his skillset, and I guarantee it will show if he is gone, Forbort is easily replaceable, Gryz not so much.

Yea the fourth line is whatever we can get, Stastny would be great, I would want veterans that have playoff experience like you stated.

No idea what OEL will take, but back in the day, he either wanted to be traded to Vancouver or Boston, so if he really wants to play for us then it might be for cheap. Not sure what his actual value is, he is in a weird spot.

Leaving Zboril here is only because of the price and age yes. We could defiantly move him for something and I wouldn't be mad.

Honestly, Hathaway can play the third line, though he's more at home on the fourth. He's done it before here in Washington. A Hathaway-Coyle-Frederic third line is an interesting thought, no idea if it would work or not but I'd like to see it.

I also think you nailed Hall having to go. That money and roster spot can be used more efficiently.

The Bruins have to take the chance and hope he can improve his level and play third line for the whole season. Definitely a good move for the price if that ends up happening.

Those are the risks we have to take with this cap penalty. Hall or Ully going is almost inevitable, and either one is good with me, I wanna see Sway be G1, but we would need a veteran G2 like Raanta. If we lose Hall. we can sign Bertuzzi, Who I like for future line 1 roles and more.

If you can get Hathaway to produce on the 3rd line as a Freddy - Coyle - Hathaway third line, then that's winning the lottery. Cheap, tough, impossible to play against - would be so ideal

i think Lauko needs to be up with Coyle, shelter him a bit in his development and proved he plays alongside him well. that'd put Hathaway in a more comfortable 4th line role, and him and Greer would just be pure violence line. As it's laid out with Lauko/Nosek/Greer i think that line gets eaten up.
I completely agree on Zboril, but i think he needs a real chance this year with someone like OEL. I think he's coming in cheap to a place he wants to be a on prove it/revenge deal, plus has his buyout salary coming in too.
I know need to sell low on him, but i'd like a pick/prospect on PIT return for Hall. Maybe a 2nd and like Legare or Broz. I think the consensus i've seen from PIT fans is giving up on POJ
