30 other teams don't have a trending upward, already star player in Nylander who was born in Calgary. Is he worth BOTH of the CGY names involved? No. Is he valued at more than either of them? Yes. Niemela is an exciting prospect, and the rest evens out. I don't think the valuation of the trade is all that off really.

You mean the city in which he was born and for the team that is likely to going to/be able to offer him $9m+ on a long term deal? Yes, I think he'd consider it.

Niemela barely cracks the top 100 prospects in the league, he's posted as 170 lbs as a d man who is 3 years out from his draft year, he's a taller, slighter Jared Spurgeon with a quarter of the talent. Zary was posted as a top 50ish prospect with two years of pro already under his belt, why would the Flames consider moving him to fill the pipeline with Niemela instead? Nylander is an upcoming UFA going to a team with a serious lack of direction right now, unless there is an 8 year deal attached to Nylander then the Flames don't even take a sniff at acquiring him. Nylander is also going to want north of 10M on his next deal which will need to be signed before the cap takes a serious jump. That can remain Toronto's headache instead of the Flames. I would hope you don't think the value is all that off, you posted it.. .it doesn't mean it's remotely close though.

Nylander isn't going for north of 10. Word is his camp is asking between 9-9.5. Which is a perfect valuation for his play. I do agree that Calgary says no unless there is a contract extension planned, but the trade itself is pretty even.
