BOS needs to clear cap space and strengthen its prospect pool.
Dubas' plan is to simultaneously 1) ice a SCF-caliber team for Crosby, Malkin, and Letang's last couple seasons (aka Win-Now mode); and 2) build for the future. I doubt that Dubas even entertains the idea of giving up the 14OA pick in such a deep draft class; but, it could also get a return that directly helps with that win-now goal.
Marchand and Ullmark are at their peak value and on good deals for 2 more seasons. That fits perfectly with the Penguin's window. Grzelcyk and Freddy are solid depth pieces that perhaps bring attributes to the Penguins that coach Sully is looking for? PIT has the space to take on those 3 contracts and re-sign Freddy; and that's before clearing cap space.
For those who think this is a poor return for the Bruins, perhaps add Reilly as a cap dump?
