You really aren't close at all on that trade. Not much of interest there for the Canes.

I agree... I could only see them dealing Pesce as part of a bigger trade or for a younger defenseman (Lundkvist) that can play top-four minutes right away

My thought philosophy here was that the Canes get an NHL D-man right away in Miller, along with two young center prospects that are on the cusp of the NHL. Would adding a 2nd-rounder in 2024 be fair?

Miller would be a little bit too old to fit the Hurricanes' timeline... but I think a very good defensive prospect (preferably on the right-side), a couple of center prospects, and a high draft pick would be a pretty good haul for Pesce if he decides not to re-sign

You mean a guy who couldn’t keep up and was benched at the end of the playoffs? What is not to like?

- Miller isn't really enticing to anyone. He's a 3rd pair/#7 caliber defenseman.

- Stranges is wildly overrated by a ton of Stars fans. He's not a top-10 prospect for Dallas and is likely a long-term AHL caliber player. You may see him find an extreme depth role at the NHL level, but he's not the highly regarded prospect that a lot of the fanbase thinks he is

- Karlstrom is a bottom-6 center with some size. Not a bad piece, but he's not near good enough to be the best piece in a return for Pesce

Pesce is a top pair, shutdown RD that has a track history of playing those top pair minutes with great effectiveness. He's not going to be had for a depth forward, a veteran depth defenseman, and an AHL prospect. If Dallas is serious about Pesce, the conversation likely starts with a package similar to what they'd be offering for DeBrincat; something in the ballpark of a 24 1st, Bourque/Kyrou/Bichsel, and a Marchment/Faksa piece for cap space purposes. Carolina's going to want a top prospect and a solid pick for a guy like Pesce.
