My Ideal Draft

Created by: IDKtbh
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 27, 2023
Published: Jun. 27, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I am 100% of the party that believes Detroit is at least 1 year away from needing to make big moves for an established difference maker via trade and I believe it’d be a mistake to expedite our rebuild a year too early.

We have an enviable fortune of having 5 picks in the top 43 of a talented/special draft class this year and trading those very valuable picks just doesn’t make sense to me. We still have two (2) 1st round picks NEXT year to swing a deal for a star player when we’re more serious about contending.

We have a ton of cap space (and we’ll still have it next year) with nobody to sign this year and a special crop of talent in next year’s FA class.

We are void of legitimate top 6 talent in our prospect pipeline and have nothing to speak of in terms of RHD prospects.

Let’s load the pipeline up with high end talent and bring in veterans to compete (like we did last year) and let the fireworks pop NEXT YEAR.

I understand these deals may come across as unrealistic but I tried to make the values match up at least.

I also didn’t bother with free agency but there’s a couple players I’d sign.

Guys are getting given away, Hall, Hayes, RyJo don’t see a 35yr old Perron fetching that return.

EDM trade is the only one that isn't brain dead homerism.

Guys are being given away from teams that have severe cap issues and have albatross contracts.

Perron at $2m is valuable.

That’s interesting because I thought that was the most favorable deal to Detroit. Perspective is a mf.

I mean I suppose they could find deals elsewhere to move off that $11m and I’d imagine Brodie has some value but I also can’t envision teams lining up to solve the Leafs cap woes. Buyout or (doing nothing) are always options.

Brodie has positive value, teams will be calling on him. After what it cost to dump Hall and Johansen, I think someone would take him for free

I would take him for free to play the right side. If there was no other option or retain half and trade him to Carolina or something.

Also I would do ask these trades except Perron, I want him until the deadline. He brings alot to this team.

Yeah, I didn’t wanna do that one just yet either but, I figured this years draft picks are more valuable than next years AND that 2nd rounder is almost a 1st rounder at #37 so for me the value was there right now.

Yeah if the value is there a guy has to take it and say thanks for your year of service.
