Make it a 2nd and Grier takes it. Petry dump alone is worth a 2nd and Kahkonen has more upside than DeSmith.

I hope Dubas tells Grier to drop dead. Petry needs replacing and there is no UFA that can do that. Kahkonen has a lower floor than DeSmith and could be a never was even as a backup goalie.

Kahkonen is 26 and in a recent article it was disclosed that GM’s still believe he has starter upside. Low risk high reward. Desmith is 31 and is a career backup with basically no potential to go higher.

Petry is a cap casualty in Pitt. He has 2 years left at 6mil +. That my friend is a big cap dump and you’re not moving that for a measly 4th. Capspace is the biggest asset this offseason. Don’t like it? Fine, we’ll stick with Kaapo and Blackwood doesn’t bother us at all, we’re rebuilding. See ya

Well if your GM says it's true it must be. GMs would never lie about projections to build player value in a deal...I would be interested in Karlsson replacing Petry. But the ignorant notion that Petry can be moved without a replacement is severely flawed. Not unless they are rebuilding like SJ. Petry was fine when he played. Perhaps a bit overpaid by a million but nothing egregious like Vlasic, Granlund, Carter, etc.

It wasn’t from SJ Gm. This was an article where the writer talked to NHL execs. Ill try to find it and post you the link later. I think it was Seravalli or LeBrun, not sure which. Vlasic is surely overpaid but he was low-key good last year. He needs the right coach and the right system. Overpaid? Yes. But he doesn’t deserve the outright criticism he gets from people that see him play 2 games a year.

That Soucy contract is regrettable. No need to trade 1st round picks for a goalie. There are a lot of goalie options out there.

Goalies are wildly inconsistent. Yes Kähkönen MIGHT be an effective starter this season. Same with dozens of other candidates. He was beyond atrocious last season so putting much stock into believing he will simply turn it around on anything more than a gamble is illogical. DeSmith at minimum is a serviceable backup. I'd say their value is about equal for PIT's purposes. I understand why Grier wouldn't value DeSmith as tanking requires futures to improve not vet backup goalies. Vlasic used to be among the best defensive dmen in the league (2010-2016). Then he started showing decline in 2017 and Wilson still extended him on that contract instead of moving him like he should have. Of course, Wilson extended almost everyone he shouldn't have leaving San Jose in their current dire need of a rebuild.

Telling me things I know as if I needed to hear it again. Preach it to a noob next time. Why do people think Sharks fans don’t know the situation they’re in? This is a pretty knowledgeable fan base so you can step off the soapbox and save it for the kids.

Hill had bad numbers for the Sharks. He just won Vegas a cup with Conn Smythe considerations. We moved him for a 4th. Not doing that again.
