Post draft ducks

Created by: Jphaxx
Team: 2023-24 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 29, 2023
Published: Jun. 30, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- Leo Carlsson probably plays top 6 wing for a few games before returning to the SHL or wherever for another season of development. After that, the whole left side changes.
- JVR @ 3 mil? Could be good net front scoring and hopefully flip at deadline for assets. Although that would take up a roster spot in a somewhat crowded Forward situation (although it's only crowded because no one outside of the usual suspects is truly standing out to claim those spots IE Max Jones)
- Mayfield @ 4.1? Might have to overpay him to get him to come here, but is exactly the complimentary style of D-man to help teach these kids something about clearing the front of the net.
- Still a glaring need for a tough guy. Would love to have D-lo back, but seeing how he's in promo pictures for the Flyers upcoming season I'd think they'd have to find someone in FA. Ideally, you'd have someone who is a tough guy and can play and handle business (IE either of the Tkachuks), but there's really no one out there like that. *sigh* Austin Watson (?)... (Reaves sounds like he has many other options out there). Maybe trade for Michael Pezzetta? The last guy the Ducks got from MTL worked out nicely. If neither of these work out, really curious about where the Ducks view Jaxsen Weibe, an undrafted prospect in their system that they gave a 3 year ELC to. Has lots of fights and is a nasty net front guy.

- I liked the way Scott Harrington played, could be a good depth guy that doesn't roadblock any of their D prospects for cheap and a veteran for San Diego.
- Still have lots of cap room to retain contracts or accept contracts for assets. Silfverberg and Henrique come off the books next year (although Henrique is likely traded), Brock Mcginn retained could go or stay (good 3rd/4th line guy, just at a bad cap hit). Not too sure, but i think maybe his cap hit is 1.625 mil if he's in the minors?

- The big problem I'm having with this roster is that it's kind of an overall younger version of last year's roster, especially if they don't add a veteran D man. Not sure what their appetite is to trade out some guys to go even younger and open up some roster spots (love him, but Vatrano). Team Defense was obviously horrendous last year, but they scored a lot more goals than the previous years, Maybe coaching will fix that.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

I would do it if MTL can sign Max Comtois first

I doubt they trade a player they just signed.
