He had a good season last season, but that was the first good season he's had in half-a-decade. Ouch.

definitely a fan of Korpisalo, like a lot of the goaltenders filtered through CBJ in the past few years, he's had a lot of ups and downs. i think with the right team in front of him, he's got starter potential but as it stands right now, this is a little rich and a little long.

i honestly see this contract being bought out in year 3 or 4 if he posts a sub-.900 SV% or over a 3.00 GAA in the front half of the contract. this contract is comparable to the Varlamov signing, but i think its a little better on account of Korpi's age and potential ceiling.

This is just my take.

When he was in CBJ he had a garbage D core and was hung out to dry regularly. Ottawa has solidified their D core it is up there with the best of them. If they play like they are paid to they can save Joonas half the work and he can put up some solid numbers - just like Forsberg has been able to improve with decent D in front of him.
