Top tier contender to get in and see what happens the plight of a flat cap

Created by: Rangsey
Team: 2023-24 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 2, 2023
Published: Jul. 2, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tampa were positioned to be an absolutely incredible team pre pandemic. Without a pandemic the cap would be around 90million and they're window would be wide open.

Alas. The world stopped and here we are. Under the circumstances JBB has done a decent job keeping the team competitive (Jeannot trade excluded) they've lost character and talent but they're still 3rd/4th in the Atlantic and a tough out in the first round. I'm curious to see where they go from here with a couple future hall of famers on the back end of their careers.

Without the Pandemic, Players would of got more money and some of the worst Contracts in the NHL would of looked a whole lot worst

honestly, I think the opposite. He's going to want 4+ Million from Colorado and play like 16-17 Minutes Per Night.

Without Colton, Yes we have to worry about him being Really Good, But we also have Depth and the Ability to Sign some guys to Cheap Contracts.

Also we can trade for Jack McBain from Arizona or Michael McLeod from New Jersey if we miss Ross Colton

of course not, But what do you do if Colton want 4+ Million? Keep him with a 21 Man Roster? trade him for Kevin bahl when there's way better options in free agency? Point is, Hate it now, but JBB took a Risk and Trade Colton for a 2nd, and that might be the best move for the Lightning

If that's the return f-ing keep him and go 21 yes he's a f-ing 35 goal scorer 60point guy easy given the minutes See Verheaghe and Marchessault.
💩 Of a return!!!!!!

Swaggy and Marchessault are revisionist history. Nobody had them becoming what they are, and for every one of them theres a Namestnikov or Connolly. Fact of the matter is we probably didn't have the cap to keep Colton and have any semblance of competitive depth. And if Colton gets bank then it's a bullet dodged.

Which "worse contracts" you talking? Cernak is a maybe but Sergy and Cirelli are not bad.

I'm not talking about those contracts, I'm talking about all of them around the NHL that happen the past Year/2 Years

Oh yeah. But you look at Tampa's core. Massive cap jump, but I doubt Cirelli, Cernak and Sergy eat all of it. There's probably room to hang onto a couple pieces.

I had Marchessault. Sorry not Verheaghe but I did Marchessault. And Colton is next in line to really make TB regret the decision.

No offense. But I dunno if I believe you. And at the time there wasn't really anyone you'd keep him over. This was pre broken wrist Tyler Johnson.
