I think so unless someone wants to take a bad contract on for cheap.

I'd be really surprised if he's done. I'll put it this way though, if this is the roster going into the season we wouldn't make the playoffs. And it wouldn't be close. This team is marginally better than last year on paper, but is also a year older, and the east is much much better. I think Dubas knows that and will make more moves. Have to think yesterday was only the start. Trust Dubas and want to give him a fair chance.

Bingo! This is reality. Now answer this for me, what move is left in the cupboard where he could take this roster and make it into a cup contender? The only answer anyone is offering is this Karlsson nonsense, which is not only unlikely but it would not make the team a contender to add another 30 something even though he had a great season. He has major injuries in his history and isn’t going to get younger.

What else could he do? Trade for Nylander? Well that’s going to cost us at least one 1st rounder when other teams can make stronger bids. And if he wants to dump Granlund now, it’s going to be costly since we have no leverage.

Idk man it's tough. Even if we get Karlsson we need youth somewhere in the lineup. If we would've bought out Granlund and not trade for Smith (I like his as a player a lot overall and don't mind the move but think we should've prioritized youth) that's 9 mil in space right there. Could've gotten both Domi and Bertuzzi. Gurianov, Comtois, Fischer, and others out there are younger, faster, and would've been an improvement over the current 3rd line of Nylander-Carter-Granlund. Right now I think that's worst third line in the league. Still holding out hope Dubas has more moves.

The team right now is completely reliant on Crosby, Malkin, and Letang to score. I can't look anywhere else in the lineup and find offense. Not in bottom 6, not with any of the D. That's the only reason I think Karlsson would help, because we have no one else on D that can score besides Letang. It's a huge burden on the top 6 right now. For 2 years we've had this problem of only the top 6 scoring. If any one of Crosby, Malkin, or Letang miss any games or don't completely carry the team then we're completely toast. If this is the roster going into opening night I'd predict we get 75-80 points. Hoping for change in the next few days.

Karlsson would add scoring for sure but that depends on him not getting hurt, which is a major risk. The guy has missed part of it most of the last like 5 seasons before last season. If we can send out Petry and Granlund whole not giving up a 1st round pick, I’d take EK65. However, why is SJ and the mystery 3rd team willing to take 11.25M in salary off our books for basically nothing? We don’t have an elite prospect to offer outside of Yager who clearly is untouchable right now. We are in no position to give up a 1st, especially 2025 or 2026 when we are really going to be bad. As long as Dubas saves 1st round picks he is doing a decent job. He made two significant mistakes with UFAs (Jarry and Eller) but we can’t undo it. Now all he can do is try to dump Granlund without emptying what little in futures we have and that’s going to be tough. We are over the cap and most teams have spent their money and are at or over it too. The teams with cap space have the power. We could have been one of those teams ourselves but he chose to spend big. Now we either work with a 20 man roster and go up against the cap, which his history in Toronto tells us he’s willing to do, or we dump Granlund which I’m guessing costs a 2nd rounder that we will miss when we need it in another 12-24 months.
