Out of necessity the team will probably give him a 1 year deal for 1.5 while making it very clear that it’s a cap thing and they’ll make up for it next summer.

If the Leafs buyout Murray that could also give us additional flexibility.

The entire league knows the sens can’t afford him (even at 7m for a year) without shoveling out guys who actually want to stay there.

This barebones roster you presented is 8.2m beneath the cap. Lets be *extremely* generous and say pinto takes 1.5 and Debrincat takes 7.... the team is over the cap with 20 rostered players. I doubt pinto and cat take only 8.5 combined.

So there’s the rub. If cat isn’t moved, which player who actually wants to stay in Ottawa will be to fit him temporarily? A Murray buyout from toronto is not enough.

And no I’m not saying cat to Detroit. In general, could be the ducks, isles, whatever.
