Description

Checking in on the rebuild. Overall, I like what MTL has been doing so far. These little moves free up a couple more roster spots for their test subjects. Both trades can really be to anyone, I just went with who I thought made the most sense.

Newhook comparable is Dach. A little less because I feel he's done a little less.

Only issue is Dvorak or Gallagher will be a 4th liner, but this depends on Slaffy being NHL ready this year and/or Monahan being healthy. There are enough players to bring up to fill out the spots if either of those two have issues.

MTL gives the defense one more year to see what they can do, before they consider massive upgrades next offseason. Same can be said for goaltending... I still can't believe they didn't take that Askarov deal... major fail.

ARI seems to be wanting to be at least slightly more competitive this year. They get two PP specialists to help increase scoring, since they seem to be lacking in the PP department. With retenion on Hoffman already, they can flip him again with more retention for a 2nd at the TDL most likely.

I just don't see any team wanting Hoffman even with 50% retention, I'd just waive him and if anyone wants him they can have him.
If Mailloux isn't guaranteed in the top 6 just put him in the AHL, let him develop (Habs rush too many prospects, Slaf should've been in the AHL last year)
I'd keep Wideman as a 7th D, from his interviews looks like a good locker room guy.
Retaining 3 contracts means they wouldn't be able to retain any other at the deadline if a deal for Monahan or Allen or Savard etc presented itself, since there is a 3 retention limit.
