The value isn’t horrible if DeBrincat signs long term, but the islanders are looking to add DeBrincat to their window, which Nelson is a huge part of. He’s a 40g, 70p caliber center who’s only gotten better with age. Trading him goes against Lou’s recent moves aiming at keeping open the islanders current window.

But if you’re deadset on a basis for a nelson-DeBrincat trade, this is a good offer that would make the islanders think.

There are four teams I know about on debrincats list which are Detroit New York Dallas and Nashville. I don’t see anyone replacing Debrincats spot in ottawa on any of those teams that they would deal to ottawa. All I see is a pool of picks coming from those teams. I don’t think the islanders except this deal but it’s a good one to think about
