I just don't understand how Duchene (and Eberle) are going to vault the Isles.into the playoffs, never mind being Cup contenders. Both have been underachievers for their past middling teams.

Eberle and Duchene were top players on there teams they just had a down year. Eberle is still a 50+ point guy and a top 20 right winger in the league. Would they put this team into the playoffs? probably. Stanley cup contenders? no

The Isles were on fire under Dougie. Eberle, at age 26, will see better years than the last one. Duchene, moving from Colorado to NYI, will score more simply from being surrounded by vastly better players.

The key move has already been made (Weight as head coach). But acquiring Duchene is still key.

The Isles missed the playoffs by one point. So not much "vaulting" needed. As far as Cup contenders....not with Halak/Greiss tandem IMO
