You’re going to trade for EK at almost $10m x 4?

If Blomqvist is included then there needs to be far more retention on Karlsson than 1.75 million.

i think the return for Karlsson is a bit much considering how little the Sharks are retaining on him but this is an interesting idea I haven't seen before and am really interested in. But I think this falls through because it would lock up all 3 of the Sharks retention slots for the next 2 seasons, not sure they would want to handcuff themselves like that.

I doubt that is really even a concern in SJ. It’s not like they’ll be competing seriously by then. Also, how else would they even utilize them? If you have them then use them. They can get SJ some assets in this case.

I think they can utilize it elsewhere, on shorter term deals say they want to retain 50% at the '24 deadline to flip A. Duclair and then do the same on an expiring contract at the '25 deadline. Only one retained slot used, but two players flipped for assets. They also may look at it from a value perspective -- would you rather use that slot on someone with higher value, say Mario Ferraro, or use it on a player who was nothing more than a paper transaction. I'm not saying they wouldn't do this deal with Petry, but there are additional factors to consider.

To all the Pittsburgh fans, STOP GIVING THE WILD JEFF F****** PETRY. First of all we don't want him unless it's for a 3rd rounder plus you gotta retain half his salary (and pay for that yourselves) and also take Alex Goligoski off our hands. Second off we literally cannot even afford his 3.125 million dollar salary if he were to come to Minnesota unless other moves are made or other players aren't signed (Duhaime/Gustavsson). Why should the Wild buy when we aren't gonna win the cup this year and have 14+ million in dead cap? Smarter decision is to save resources and get young guys more playing time. Which also leads to Brock Faber playing top 4 minutes.
