I'll preface this by saying that Hanifin is a very good player who would make the Islanders better, BUT...I wouldn't do this. It's a decent bundle of assets to give up for a guy that almost definitely walks next summer, considering that the Isles have less than $5M in cap space for summer 2024 (and that's assuming a jump to $87.5M in the cap.)

At this point, the roster basically is what it is for this year and next. I think any deadline rental deals are going to be just that - rentals that you're fine with letting walk because the acquisition cost wasn't too high.

I didn't realize they would have so little money next season still with cap increase. In reality I really think they need an upgrade over Aho. If we don't upgrade D at all I don't see the Islanders as serious contenders (unless Dobson has a complete 360 turnaround from last season). With that being said I think this is the best offensive lineup theyve had in decades.

Not terrible for Hanifin although potentially a better roster player coming back is required if there's full retention. I think the Flames would want to be a 2024 1st so the player they draft can be in the system sooner
