Connor Hellebuyck 24-25

Created by: Devsfan25
Team: 2024-25 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 10, 2023
Published: Jul. 10, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ilya Sorokin will be starting his 8 year extension at age 28. The conclusion of that deal brings him to age 36. Sorokin just signed for 8.25m as a goalie who is not only better, but younger. Connor Hellebuyck will be due for an extension at age 31. A max term deal would bring him to 38 or 39 yo. No one is going to give him that. And considering Sorokin is getting paid big until 36, so should Connor Hellebuyck which would be a 5 year term. But due to age difference and the fact that Sorokin is better than Hellebuyck, Hellebuyck's true market value should sit around 7m AAV. The highest I would go on an extension would be 7.5m AAV and not a penny more. If he actually wants to contend for a Cup, this is the type of deal he will have to take

Chicago declines. Palat probably wouldn't waive for Chicago anyway.

I could definitely see Palat not waiving for Chicago due to where they're at in the rebuild, but you don't think Chicago would accept? Palat will still be a competent player and will be able to mentor Bedard, Reichel, Moore etc. Daws will likely turn out to be a serviceable NHL goalie as well; I don't think he'll be a full time starter, but definitely a guy that could play 30-35 games a year. Chicago also adds another 1st round pick to their stockpile

Not a chance. Sorry, but, four year $6M cap hit and almost $22M in salary for an old and heavily declining player costs more than Daws and a late 1st to dump. CHI isn't looking to add more goaltending either.

May not make a difference to you, but it would 3 years at this point for reference

If all you offer Hellebuyck is 7 million he's going to walk. An $833,333 dollar raise just ain't going to cut it. And Mercer won't even sign a 2 year bridge for 6 million never mind 6 years.
