I don't understand why Rangers fans keep wanting to sign Thornton. The organization lacks center depth at the prospect level, and because Thornton is 37 and coming off a torn ACL, it would suit them to look for a longer term solution, such as Gagner or Bonino. The big pieces look fine, but the depth is a mess; John Mitchell is too washed up to even play 4C, and there are far better backups than Pavelec. Yak doesn't have a place on the team unless they can trade Nash. Pionk is probably not NHL ready, and Kampfer is just terrible even as a 7th dman.

Nope; he was a 40 point player in 2013-14 with Anaheim and was on pace for 40 in 2014-15 with Vancouver. Besides, if PJF thinks that Hayes is ready to be a 2C, then Bonino would slide onto his usual 3C spot. He's more recognized because he was on the Pens, but he's a damn good 3C no matter what team he's on.
