Think you have to add the 1st going back to Toronto as well.

Sharks still accept IMO

Maybe that’s enough for Karlsson…but for eating $15m over next two years…needs to be something more to San Jose.

Yeah the Nylander market is hard to gauge, great player but if he doesn't agree to an extension... But I agree the 1st might make more sense

William Nylander, P.O. Joseph, a 1st, a 2nd and a good goalie prospect? More still?

I have to agree we’re asking a bit to much, if Karlsson had back to back great seasons I would agree but 1 great season after 4 injury marred seasons combined with the NMC drops his value

The market for dead cap is roughly

$5-6m = 1st
$3-5m = 2nd
$2-3m = 3rd
$1-2m = 4th

The $15m bill alone would cost you a couple of 1sts

I think the contract is a big factor too, if it was more like Burns then there are so many more teams interested

Also, PO Joseph has yet to convince many he is a solid prospect. Good chances he visits the waiver wire this season.

Karlsson can't be moved without both taking back a bad contract and retaining on him. Without retention and a bad deal coming back his worth doesn't exist because no team can take on 11.5 and to add to that he can't be dumped because of his NMC. Your costing on dead cap is correct, but future dead cap does not cost the same because the cap is going up dramatically.

So SJS retains 3.5 per year for 4 with the relative cost going down every year
The bad deal the take back can be flipped so it's not even that back at 3.1 per year for 2 years

All of that is worth Joseph, a 1st, a 2nd and Blomqvist

The flip is the challenge so you add Barabanov take on another dump in Murray (almost no cost this year and only 2 mill next year) and you get Nylander who you can flip at the deadline. Pens sweeten the Toronto pot with a 2nd

As a pens fan not sure I agree with you, does Ty Smith excite you more?

As a pens fans I'd be happy to swap Smith, I think the original plan last year was for Smith to play and Joseph to be traded preseason but Joseph simply beat Smith in camp.

I would just send a bit more salary onto PIT and TOR plates and it would work.

The retention brings him down to burns deal
11.5-3.5 is 8 and till 36/37 and that’s the age sharks traded burns at.

Burns was that but then retained 30%

But that was after the age 36 season, Karlsson is 33.
That’s the difference. Karlsson reigning Norris and 1 st. D to score 100 points in 30 years is well worth 8 mil.

If Toronto does decide to trade Willy, it can't be in a deal like this. Having to add Murray and ask for retention on a contract coming back takes away from his overall value. They shouldn't be moving him at this point anyway.

Best to just move Murray in a separate deal involving picks.
