I'm not in love with acquiring Pesce. Value is probably fair (I don't really want to move a first but if you want a great player you have to pay) but I don't understand it. Canucks have Hronek for now and Willander coming up and I personally feel like Pesce just clogs his development

Value is probably ok but don’t see how this really helps canes (unless they’re flipping assets). Beau is redundant and doesn’t move needle based on canes structure and setup already. Rathbone probably doesn’t crack roster long term and def doesn’t short term. The first is nice but again unless they’re using it in a separate deal it doesn’t really make sense.

Agree to an extent, but Wallinder is 2-3 years out. Canucks have a core imo to start competing now and should. Hronek is great but shouldn’t be playing with Hughes as he excels with a defensively sound partner much like Hughes does. So bringing in Pesce solidifies the top 4.

I’d say this scenario would be if canes went out and got Karlsson. The 1st gets flipped to SJ and EK65 takes Pesce’s spot.

My opinion is that you can't afford to pay for a high quality D partner for Hughes. You can't do this without extending Pesce because you can't afford to trade for a UFA, but if you extend him what do you do when Willander is ready? If Pesce was looking for a short term extension you can do it but if not I don't think it's worth it in the future.

Like I said, Wallinder 2-3 out still, then realistically 4-5 before pushing for a top 4 spot. Can’t build a team to start winning now when your waiting on potential 4-5 years down the line. I get the excitement with him but expectations need to be tempered (Juolevi)
